What is it?
A Provisional Driver’s Licence (P1 and P2) is the interim licence between a Learner’s Permit and a full licence. It must be held for two years or until 19 years of age (whichever comes later). While Provisional Licence holders are deemed competent and experienced enough to drive alone, certain conditions still apply.
What are my restrictions?
A holder of a Provisional Licence must comply with several conditions.
- The P-plates must be clearly displayed at the front and rear of the vehicle (on P1 licence only)
- Must carry their Provisional Licence at all times when driving
- Must not drive with any drug or alcohol concentration in their blood
- Must not exceed a speed of 100 km/h (where speed signs permit)
